Buffalo Nickels were made in Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco from 1913 to 1938. The first 1913 Buffalo Nickels showed the Buffalo on a mound. Later that year the coin was redesigned to show the Bison on a straight lines base.
The bison was modeled after “Black Diamond” in the New York City Zoo. Buffalo nickels are extremely popular.
